What You Should And Shouldn't Do After You Get Lip Injections

Lip injections aren't nearly as taboo as they used to be, but there still doesn't seem to be a lot of useful information out there about what you can expect from getting them (via Vogue).

Getting any kind of facial enhancements can seem daunting if you're not educated about the dos and don'ts of the procedure, especially if it deals with injecting something into your skin, such as lip injections require. The good news? There's no need to worry about these kinds of procedures — you just need to be prepared ahead of time about what you should and shouldn't do during the healing process.

Here's what to do after you get lip injections

The main thing to remember after getting your fillers is that remember that your lips are going to be swollen anywhere between a couple of days to a couple of weeks, although most swelling does dissipate within those first couple of days (via The Retreat Med Spa). However, it is recommended that you take arnica pellets or use arnica gel to help minimize any bruising or excessive swelling. Although you will usually go home with an ice pack, arnica can really help, but these recommendations can vary by practitioner — make sure you ask before applying OTC treatments to your plumped-up lips (via Total Beauty).

It's also recommended that you keep an eye on your new fillers once the swelling goes down to make sure you like the results. Temporary hyaluronic acid fillers can be removed fairly quickly if you don't like them (via Byrdie).

Here's what not do after getting lip injections

Post-procedure, you're not going to want to do anything that involves getting your blood pumping — no exercise, no facials, no massaging your lips. Increasing the blood flow to your face can increase the amount of swelling there is, and it could mean a longer healing period (via Cosmopolitan). Also, make sure you keep an eye out for any issues that may pop up as a result of your lip injection, and contact your doctor if you're concerned.

One of the most important things to not do after getting lip injections is to let other people get under your skin about choosing to get fillers — after all, do you think Kylie Jenner really cares? Remember that there's no shame in getting injections. It's your body and you can do whatever you want with it.
