What To Expect From HGTV's Newest Show, Stay Or Sell?
By now, HGTV has a formula they know works. An ambitious duo fixes up a house, often one that looks like it isn't salvageable, and records the process for legions of fans. This format has proven to be a gold mine for several shows from Fixer Upper to Flip or Flop to Good Bones. The latest home improvement show to hit the network is Stay or Sell? with a premiere date of August 27.
Stay or Sell? introduces Minnesota homeowners in each episode who must make the choice to either fix up their current home or buy a new one which will then be customized by husband-and-wife team Brad and Heather Fox, owners of Fox Homes. The Foxes shot a pilot last year and then filmed eight episodes for Stay or Sell? all in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area.
Brad told the Star Tribune that Stay or Sell? differs from HGTV's other shows because "there's a Minnesota flair to everything, a Scandinavian undertone to all of our designs." Heather added that the scale of the projects on Stay or Sell? is bigger than we typically see on other shows, saying they "are massive total-change renovations. We did a three-story addition, a rambler that turned into a two-story."
Promoting Minnesota is also important to the couple. "People are so proud and excited to show off our state, on a national platform," said Heather.
They're also proud of the fact that they are able to change their clients' living situations without completely uprooting them. "We keep people in neighborhoods that they love," Heather said. "They're super-connected to their neighborhoods. Their neighbors mow their lawns, watch their kids."
So far, Stay or Sell? only has one season set to air, but the Foxes are hopeful it will be picked up for a second season. Heather said that they're already looking at projects for a potential second season. "If it happens, we're prepared," she said. "If not, we'll have these great projects."
