Why Fans Got Their Hopes Up About A New Signed, Sealed, Delivered Movie On Hallmark
The Hallmark Channel has many beloved series' with multiple installments that capture the hearts of their viewers. One example is "The Wedding Veil" series starring Lacey Chabert, Autumn Reeser, and Alison Sweeney. Another is the "Aurora Teagarden Mysteries" series, which is releasing a prequel in June 2023.
The Hallmark original series "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" is another fan-favorite. The series follows a group of Postables, or employees of the Dead Letter Office of the Post Office. Packages or letters that arrive at the Dead Letter Office have never made it to their destinations, and the Postables make it their mission to find the people that need these important pieces of mail.
"Signed, Sealed, Delivered" started as a TV series, and has since released many movies about the Postables' adventures. They star Eric Mabius as Oliver O'Toole, Kristin Booth as Shane McInerney, Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe as Rita Haywith, and Geoff Gustafson as Norman Dorman. The most recent "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" movie was released in 2021, but recently, a misunderstanding made it sound like another movie was definitely coming.
Eric Mabius accidentally 'announced' a new installment in an interview
In April 2023, actor Eric Mabius was interviewed on the Australian talk show "Today Extra" about the upcoming "Cruel Intentions" reboot. (He played the character of Greg McConnell in the original film.) In the interview, Mabius was also asked about "Signed, Sealed, Delivered." A clip from his interview was circulated on Twitter for non-Australians to see as well, and it shows Mabius' response to the question of whether another movie is coming: "There is, and what a wonderful project." He also commended the creator of the show, Martha Williamson, and added that "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" is a " mixture of romance and comedy and heartfelt intent without being, you know, syrupy."
Fans of the "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" series were excited to hear this. One commenter on the clip said, "Don't mess with me [and] get my hopes up, unless this is really happening! It would be too good to be true!" Unfortunately, the news is too good to be true.
Mabius cleared the air on Twitter
Eric Mabius took to Twitter to explain the misunderstanding about a new "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" film. He said that in his interview, he was speaking generally about the potential for a future movie in the series, but that " there is NOTHING definitive as of right now."
One fan responded to the tweet and expressed disappointment, adding, "We were all really hoping that it was going to happen." However, most of the responses were positive, not minding the miscommunication and saying that they still have hope for a new installment in the future. One person said, "I am trusting the timing that [Hallmark] execs understand the writing on the wall, so to speak, and do what they know will be the right thing," along with the hashtag "Renew SSD in 23." Many others used the hashtag "Renew SSD" in their responses as well.
Until a renewal is officially confirmed, fans of the franchise can rewatch the original "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" series from 2013 and all the subsequent films on the Hallmark Movies Now website.
