Princess Margaret's Granddaughter Could Be Her Twin. Here's What We Know About Margarita Armstrong-Jones
Margarita Armstrong-Jones is the granddaughter of Antony Armstrong-Jones and Princess Margaret, the late sister of Queen Elizabeth II. As the granddaughter of such an important royal, Margarita has long been a source of interest for royal watchers and followers ever since she served as a bridesmaid in the wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
These days, Margarita is all grown up and ready to step out on her own. As noted by Tatler, ever since she made an appearance at the outlet's Little Black Book party in November 2022, people haven't stopped talking about her resemblance to her beloved grandmother. Both Princess Margaret and Margarita were photographed in honor of their 21st birthdays — Margaret in 1951 wearing Dior and Margarita in 2023 for the cover of Tatler — just one of many things they have shared throughout their lives, despite having never met.
Margarita is an interesting sort of royal as she's well known but can still navigate freely without being easily recognized, offering anonymity that her other relatives do not enjoy. Here is everything we know about Margarita Armstrong-Jones, the granddaughter of Princess Margaret.
Margarita Armstrong-Jones was born three months after Princess Margaret died
David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowdon, and his ex-wife Serena Armstrong-Jones, Countess of Snowdon, welcomed their daughter Margarita Armstrong-Jones on May 14, 2002. Sadly, her birth took place three months after her grandmother Princess Margaret died, which means the two never got to know one another.
But that hasn't stopped Margarita from embodying her grandmother in a number of ways. In November 2022, she stepped out at Tatler's Little Black Book party wrapped in a white fur that immediately called to mind a similar coat worn by Princess Margaret in 1951. As reported by Town & Country, it seemed that Margarita intentionally imitated her late grandmother, right down to the beaded top she wore that so closely emulated her grandmother's own beaded top.
Margarita opened up about her late grandmother's influence on her in the May 2023 issue of Tatler. As she told the outlet, she believes that she gets her interest in jewelry from Princess Margaret. She also praised the engagement ring given to her grandmother by her grandfather and said: "[It was] very simple and very small and I think that's probably what he wanted, nothing crazy and overstated. It's timeless."
Margarita Armstrong-Jones was a bridesmaid at Prince William's wedding
Margarita Armstrong-Jones has certainly been able to hold tightly to her royal family connections, which makes sense as she is so closely related. In fact, she even served as a bridesmaid in the Prince and Princess of Wales' 2011 wedding. Margarita was only eight-years-old when the two wed and subsequently grew up largely out of the public eye, a fact that was noted by Hello! in November 2022.
As such, many were surprised to see a fully grown-up Margarita Armstrong-Jones at the age of 20. As reported by Hello! in a separate piece, Margarita spent the intervening years at Tudor Hall School, attended fashion shows such as the Dior Cruise show at Blenheim Palace, and even modeled for the Kids Company, which is connected to the Chelsea Ballet School.
Margarita was also joined by other family members at the wedding. Additional members of the wedding party included Lady Louise Windsor, the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Eliza Lopes, the granddaughter of Camilla, Queen Consort, and William Lowther-Pinkerton, the son of Prince William and Kate Middleton's friend Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton.
Margarita Armstrong-Jones' parents separated in 2020
Margarita Armstrong-Jones' family was rocked in 2020 when her parents David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowdon, and Serena Armstrong-Jones, Countess of Snowdon announced their separation and their intent to divorce. At the time, the pair had been married for over 25 years and their split came as a surprise to many. "The Earl and Countess of Snowdon have amicably agreed that their marriage has come to an end and that they shall be divorced," a spokesperson for the pair announced (via People). "They ask that the press respect their privacy and that of their family."
It is unclear what led to the divorce and neither party has commented in detail about the event. People also reported that David Armstrong-Jones once told The Telegraph that he always made sure to spend at least one day a week with his wife and their children. "I devote Sundays to [wife Serena Stanhope] and the children. It's great to have a day to be quiet and reflect and to laugh together."
Margarita Armstrong-Jones runs her own jewelry business
Unlike her senior royal cousins, Margarita Armstrong-Jones has developed a thriving business of her own. She is the jewelry designer and owner of Matita Jewelry, which she often shares on the brand's official Instagram account. On top of that, it's clear that Margarita has also inherited her grandfather's propensity for photography. She boasts her own photography account on Instagram as well.
As she told Tatler in its May 2023 issue, her grandfather Antony Armstrong-Jones is a major inspiration for her, both growing up and now. After sharing that she and her brother used to have their photos taken by their grandfather, Margarita added: "Lighting, as any photographer would say, is the most important thing. In his other work, he really captures people's characters, whether it's with their facial expressions, where they are or what they are wearing — it's all very clever like that; he is definitely an inspiration."
Her grandfather also made jewelry, something that is very special to the family, and Margarita credits her grandmother's choice of jewelry as a source of inspiration for her career as well.
