Days Of Our Lives Writer Spills On Why Bo And Hope Didn't Get The Happy Ending Fans Wanted

"Days of Our Lives" viewers were over the moon when it was announced that Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso were reprising their iconic roles of Bo Brady and Hope Williams Brady for an arc on the flagship series following their stint on the sudser's spin-off "Beyond Salem" in 2022. "This is old-school 'Days of Our Lives,' and it's something that the audience has waited a very, very long time to see. You won't want to miss it," the soap opera's head writer Ron Carlivati previously told Soap Opera Digest (via Michael Fairman TV.)

Bo and Hope's story continued on from where fans last saw them, with Bo being brought back to life by Megan Hathaway and Hope looking to find Megan and bring her to justice. However, Bo was much changed. He didn't want anything to do with his family, friends, or previous life in Salem. Instead, he looked to steal all of Megan and Dr. Rolf's information and research to sell to the highest bidder to gain wealth and power like his father, Victor Kiriakis.

Meanwhile, Bo and Hope danced around each other before their big reunion moment finally came. Hope was shocked to see that Bo had little emotion about being with her, and was even more stunned when he held her at gunpoint and threatened to kill her. However, Hope ended up getting through to Bo, who remembered their iconic love story just moments before he was shot by his own son, Shawn-Douglas Brady.

Fans call out Days writers for Bo and Hope's unhappy ending

After "Days of Our Lives" fans watched Bo Brady get shot and ultimately fall into a coma, it was clear that Bo and Hope weren't going to get their happy ending, and if they did, it would be very limited. Of course, viewers spoke out about their disappointment via social media and expressed their unhappiness over the way the storyline was handled. However, one of the soap opera's writers opened up about a potential plan that had been laid out for the iconic couple.

When one fan asked writer Jamey Giddens via Twitter why the writing staff disappointed Bo and Hope fans so badly, he had a very interesting answer. "I think my adoration for all things Bo and Hope is a matter of public record," he replied. "Furthermore, Ron [Carlivati] pitched a Happily Ever After where the couple reunited, returned to Salem, saw Doug, Julie & Victor then went off to hunt Megan. For whatever reason, that story wasn't approved."

It's unclear why the soap didn't want Bo and Hope to have a storybook ending. However, it seems that giving the duo an ending that's left up in the air may lead to more stories for the pair in the future, as their story continues to be a favorite among fans.
