Denim Is Having A Moment At Coachella 2023

Music and fashion lovers unite, as weekend one of Coachella 2023 took place. Around 125,000 people attended the festival during the sold-out first weekend, which began on April 14. Headliners Bad Bunny, BLACKPINK, and Frank Ocean all took to the stage and will return again for the second weekend on April 21.

However, Coachella isn't just about who's performing. Aside from the music, one of the main things to know about the California desert festival is that it's an opportunity to show off your unique festival style. Like with any event, there were some Coachella 2023 looks that completely missed the mark. However, there was a common theme amongst the outfits that did come out on top — denim.

Denim was one of the standout fabrics of Coachella 2023 during weekend one, and there's no doubt that more denim looks will be seen at weekend two. Here's a few of our favorites so far so you can get some inspiration for the upcoming warmer weather.

This outfit is a great choice for casual days out

Suki Waterhouse kept things casual with her Coachella look. The actress and singer wore baggy straight-leg denim jeans and a teeny denim bralette top with a relaxed button-up over the top. The all-blue color palette could have looked dull, but the contrasting striped pattern on the shirt saves this look from being too much of the same thing. Waterhouse finished her outfit with slightly more dressy pointed-toe white shoes and accessorized with oversized sunglasses.

Denim and cowboy boots are a match made in heaven

Model Olivia Culpo showed that double denim can be casual with her denim cutoffs and denim jacket look. Instead of wearing the jacket, Culpo tied it around her waist so it covered most of her shorts. On her top half, she wore an ultra-cropped white t-shirt, and for accessories she chose a black cowboy hat and a small black bag. The cowboy boots only add to the western vibes — yeehaw, but make it Coachella cool.

A denim playsuit is the perfect wardrobe piece for warmer weather

Willow Smith (who goes by just Willow for her stage name) wore a gorgeous denim playsuit during her set at Coachella. The playsuit featured a sleeveless silhouette, a high neckline, and a utility-style denim harness that hung down freely. She kept her accessorises simple, allowing her all-in-one to take center stage. Playsuits are always a solid warm weather go-to due to their versatility, and a denim playsuit will earn you even more cool girl points.

This denim look was both fun and flirty

Double denim sets are everywhere right now, and Kali Uchis' is one of the cutest. She broke up her all-denim look by opting for a crop top and low-rise mini skirt combination, a choice that also makes her outfit perfect for summer. Uchis didn't stop at a matching denim crop top and skirt look either, either — she added matching denim knee-high boots to her look for a finishing touch. We also love the adorable Y2K butterfly motif that runs through the outfit.

This all-blue look thankfully won't leave you feeling blue

Becky G chose a denim co-ord in a rich shade of blue for her set at Coachella. She wore baggy utility-style Y2K cargo pants with a super cropped denim shrug jacket and sequin bra top. She also wore her pants unbuttoned so her matching sequin thong was visible, a '90s trend that has been making the rounds once again. This outfit proves you don't have to stick to typical denim colors for your denim-on-denim look — everything from bleach blue to indigo washes were spotted at weekend one.

Some celebs chose to keep it casual

With her laidback jeans and denim jacket look, Camila Morrone is just one of the Coachella attendees who showed that double denim definitely can and should be a thing. Laidback and effortlessly cool, Morrone's bleached and ripped jeans contrasted with her darker denim jacket, which featured a subtly oversized fit. If you're thinking of styling a double denim look yourself, go for a basic top underneath like Morrone's plain white tee to prevent a visually overwhelming look.

You can never go wrong with a denim midi skirt

Much like how denim maxi skirts are back, the denim midi skirt is still going strong. Amelia Gray's denim corset top and denim midi skirt look is decidedly fierce, mostly because of her choice to go for stompy black boots. As for accessories, Gray kept things lowkey with a few bracelets, a slim chain necklace, and a black bag to match her shoes. We also love the slight flare of the skirt and the dark wash denim, both of which give this outfit major attitude.
