For The Best Of Both Nail Worlds, Try The Glazed Vanilla French Manicure

Changing up your nails is one of the easiest ways to change up your style on a regular basis, so it's no wonder that new manicure trends are always popping up. Hailey Bieber went viral for her glazed donut nails in 2022, and, like many other fashion and beauty trends, that has now been combined with a classic look to create an all-new trend.

"Outer Banks" star Madelyn Cline debuted the glazed French vanilla manicure in February 2023. Combining the glazed donut nails with a classic French manicure gives you the glazed vanilla French manicure, which is a term coined by Cline's nail artist Zola Ganzorigt (via Byrdie). The resulting style just might be the best of both worlds. The new look can be completed on nails of any shape and size, which makes it a perfect go-to look to ask for at the salon or to DIY at home.

The new manicure creates a toned-down, soft look

According to celebrity nail artist Zola Ganzorigt, the vanilla French manicure has a softer look compared to some of the more extreme, flashy nail trends. In addition to being Madelyn Cline's nail artist, Ganzorigt is the artist credited with creating the viral glazed donut manicure for Hailey Bieber in 2022 and the vanilla French manicure in early 2023. When describing the vanilla French manicure, she told Byrdie, "It's more toned-down and softer compared to traditional white French nails, and it makes it more natural-looking."

The major differences between Cline's glazed vanilla French manicure and a traditional French manicure are the softness of the colors and the glaze on top. Instead of a stark nude and white look like a traditional French manicure, the vanilla glazed addition leads to a softer transition between the nail and the tip, which creates a more playful, fun look that's sure to attract a lot of compliments.

How to achieve the glazed vanilla French manicure at home

If you want to achieve the glazed vanilla French manicure look at home, start with a basic French manicure base. Apply two coats of the base color of your choice and let the polish dry completely. Then, apply the tip color, which you can do free-hand, as nail artist Kelli Marissa shows in her YouTube video tutorial, or you can use nail tape or cotton swabs to help you achieve the look. After that dries, go in with your top coat, which should be a chrome powder or sheer, pearly polish. Then, finish off with a glossy top coat for a professional look.

If you're not comfortable recreating the look yourself, you can also get the manicure at a salon. Make sure you're prepared to show multiple photos of the manicure look you're going for, and tell your nail artist exactly what you like about each picture.
