Whatever Happened To The Second Caroline Spencer On The Bold And The Beautiful?

As longtime fans of "The Bold and the Beautiful" continue to weigh in on young Douglas Forrester's guardianship decision, many newer viewers might be curious about who his birth mother is. While Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) is Douglas's adopted mother through her relationship with Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson), Douglas' biological mom was actually Caroline Spencer. Newer fans may also be surprised to learn that "Bold" had two Caroline Spencers. The first, Caroline Spencer Forrester (Joanna Johnson), was deeply in love with Ridge Forrester (then Ronn Moss) but sadly died of leukemia in 1990.

The second was Caroline's niece that was named after her, as played by Linsey Godfrey, who took on the role in 2012. The character even crossed over to "The Young and the Restless" briefly in 2014. Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) was looking to break up her son Rick Forrester's (Jacob Young) relationship with Amber Moore (Adrienne Frantz), so she hired Caroline as his design partner at Forrester Creations, hoping that they'd hit it off and Amber would get kicked to the curb.

Caroline wasn't interested in Rick at first because she saw some photos of him cross-dressing and didn't realize Amber had doctored them. After Amber gave Hope Logan (then Kimberly Matula) some sketchy anti-anxiety pills, Rick steered clear of her, paving the way for Caroline to take her rightful position as his paramour. However, Rick became interested in Maya Avant (Karla Mosley), so Caroline schemed to break them up.

Caroline gradually grew close to Ridge

Caroline's ingenious plan to cast Maya in an adult movie didn't have the desired effect — Rick was outraged by her actions. She then tried to make amends by helping Rick keep his job at Forrester Creations, and when he learned that Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) had spent the night at Maya's place, he went back to Caroline. The couple subsequently got married in 2013. However, Caroline had also been helping Ridge (now Thorsten Kaye) with his designs because an accident made it difficult for him to use his hands, and their closeness put a strain on her relationship with Rick.

When Rick learned that Ridge and Caroline had kissed, he took a gun and shot at them, but luckily missed and no one got injured. While Ridge and Caroline grew closer, she was upset when he claimed that he didn't want to have kids with her. Ridge's son, Thomas Forrester (then Adam Gregory), was also romantically interested in Caroline, so he comforted her. Caroline had taken too many anti-anxiety pills, and in a strange and twisted story, when she woke up the next day Thomas told her they'd had sex.

Caroline fell pregnant and later learned that Ridge had had a vasectomy, and the baby was Thomas's. So when Ridge found out, the two conspired to keep the baby's paternity a secret from him. When their son was born, the couple named him Douglas as a tribute to Stephanie Forrester's (Susan Flannery) maiden name.

Caroline and Thomas' relationship was strained

Thomas was enraged when he found out that Douglas was his child, and he almost kidnapped the baby, but Caroline reassured Thomas that he would be part of Douglas' life. Eventually, Ridge and Caroline divorced and she hooked up with Thomas again. The two moved to New York, but when they had difficulties, Thomas went back to Los Angeles and started seeing Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). Caroline's uncle, Bill Spencer Jr. (Don Diamont), concocted a scheme to pretend Caroline was dying in order to guilt Thomas into coming back to her.

Bill told Thomas about Caroline's grim fate, and Caroline reluctantly went along with the ruse. Thomas fell for it and went back to New York with her. But, when Thomas learned that Caroline wasn't actually ill, he was furious and dumped her. Caroline then returned to LA when Bill got shot in the back. Blaming Bill for her breakup with Thomas, Caroline tried strangling her hospitalized uncle but was stopped in her tracks.

She and Thomas became suspects in Bill's shooting, but following a thorough police investigation, they were cleared of all charges. Thomas eventually decided to go back to New York with Caroline for Douglas's sake. Thomas went back to LA with Douglas in 2019 and brought the sad news that Caroline had died from a blood clot. In a surprising stroke of unity, all the families got together and mourned her death.
