Tom Brady's Son Jack Is Growing Up Fast. Here's What We Know About Him
Tom Brady is an NFL superstar who has steered his team to seven record wins in the Super Bowl and has been selected Most Valuable Player (MVP) an impressive five times (via Britannica). But, the champion quarterback says his family is his "greatest achievement" (per Instagram). After welcoming his first son, Jack, into the world, we have seen a softer side of Tom Brady. Off the football field, he is winning at fatherhood, and although he is close to all three of his children – his bond with his eldest son, Jack, proves that co-parenting with an ex can be a success.
Tom and his ex-girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan welcomed John Edward Thomas Moynahan, also known as "Jack Brady," into the world in 2007 (via US Magazine). Tom was dating supermodel Gisele Bündchen at the time of Jack's birth, and although they were married for over 13 years (per Insider) and had two children – Tom has made every effort to stay present in his eldest son's life. Here's what we know about Jack, Tom Brady's son with Bridget Moynahan.
Jack was born in 2007 after his parents broke up
Tom Brady dated actress Bridget Moynahan for almost three years, but after they pair broke up in December 2006, Moynahan discovered she was pregnant with their son, Jack. Brady was surprised to hear the news at the time. "Next thing you know, I found out that Bridget was pregnant with our son," he told Howard Stern in 2020. "So that was a very unique time ... and it challenged me in a lot of ways, again, to grow up in a different way," he said (as reported by People). In January 2007, Brady moved on with his now ex-wife, supermodel Gisele Bündchen. According to Bündchen, her connection with Brady was instant. "I knew right way—the first time I saw him," the supermodel told Vanity Fair when describing their first date.
While Brady was dating Bündchen, his ex, Moynahan, delivered Jack at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica at 11:46 a.m. on August 22, 2007 (via the Boston Herald). Although InStyle reports that representatives of Moynahan stated that she and Brady "amicably ended their three-year relationship," Moynahan said she struggled to cope. "Going through that traumatic time of being heartbroken and then being pregnant turned my whole life upside down and inside out and just knocked the wind out of me," Moynahan told Harper's Bazaar back in 2008. "But now I have a child, and it's the best thing in the world," she added.
Tom Brady and his ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan do their best to co-parent Jack
Co-parenting is challenging for most parents, and co-parenting over a long distance can be impossible. Fortunately for Jack Brady, his parents have made it work. Although they live in different states, Tom Brady and actress Bridget Moynahan have tried their best to create a stable environment for Jack. Brady has lived with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and their two kids in Florida, while Moynahan and Jack reside in New York City. Brady told Variety that Jack "wants time" and spoke of the challenges of parenting his three children and having a busy schedule.
Despite telling Harper's Bazaar about her rocky start to motherhood, Moynahan, who married businessman Andrew Frankel in 2015, has praised Brady's efforts to parent Jack with her. "Tom and I made a decision to raise a child together, and we both found partners that not only supported us in raising that child but also loved our child as if he was their own," Moynahan told People. "I don't think you can ask for more than that. My son is surrounded by love and grandparents that go on forever, and it's all good."
Jack is a big fan of football and might follow in his dad's footsteps
Now 15, Jack has many things in common with his dad, Tom Brady, as the pair share a love of fitness which makes his quarterback dad super proud. "Jack loves sports. He wants to try hard, and he never wants to disappoint his dad. That was me," Brady told Men's Health. "I'd wake up early on weekends to do stuff with my dad. That's why I didn't party a lot. If Dad wanted to golf, I wanted to be there with him. And if I ever missed those things, it would crush me."
Jack has followed in his father's footsteps by taking on high school football and even playing the same position. "I love watching him play quarterback," Brady said on Sirius XM's podcast "Let'sGo!" Brady expressed joy at seeing his eldest son share his passion for NFL and hopes to teach him the ropes. "I don't have a lot of specialties in life other than probably throwing the football. He's way smarter. He's got a great work ethic. He's just a great kid. But I can definitely help him at quarterback," he said.
Gisele Bündchen sees Jack as her bonus child
Former Victoria Secret model Gisele Bündchen was only dating her now ex-husband Tom Brady for a couple of months before discovering that his ex-girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan was expecting his child. Not exactly easy news to digest. "It wasn't the ideal situation for anyone — there's no manual to prepare you for that," Bündchen told People.
However, she has embraced her role in Jack's life and is grateful for the opportunity to help parent Jack. "I know this was hard, but I couldn't imagine my life without [Jack]. I call him my bonus child," she said. Bundchen also expressed that her love of Jack made her want to have children faster so he could have siblings close to his age. Bundchen and Bardy welcomed two children Benjamin and Vivian, both of whom are close to their older brother, (per People).
Bündchen regularly posts photos of Jack on her Instagram page and even shared a photo of Jack and his siblings, captioned with a sweet birthday message: "Happy birthday sweetest Jack!! 15 looks great on you! I wish you all the most wonderful things in the world. You are so loved by all of us. Te amo."
Jack is the reason Tom Brady chose to play for the Tampa Bay Bucs
The NFL scene was a buzz when Tom Brady announced that he'd be leaving the New England Patriots, a team the quarterback had been connected to for two decades (per CBS Sports). Brady made the big departure announcement in 2020 on social media: "I wanted to say thank you to all of the incredible fans and Patriots supporters," he said on Twitter. "I don't know what my football future holds, but it is time for me to open a new stage for my life and career," he included in the statement.
According to Page Six, Brady made the decision to leave the Patriots and sign up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on March 2020 to be closer to his son Jack who lives with his mom, actress Bridget Moynahan in New York. What an awesome dad! Luckily he didn't have to take a pay cut – according to CBS Sports, Brady signed up $50 million two-year contract. Sounds like a win-win to us.
Jack is tall for his age and a great athlete
When Tom Brady posted a photo of his son Jack standing back to back with his former teammate, Julian Edelman, on his Instagram stories, the image went viral because his son is impressively tall. Brady jokingly captioned the now-deleted image with the words "Sorry @eleman11 you stopped growing and now this 15 year old is towering over you" (per Sports Illustrated).
The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree as Tom Brady, is reportedly 6'4" (via Sports Illustrated), so it's no surprise his eldest son Jack inherited the same gene. The photograph of Jack had NFL fans excited about Brady's son's possible future football career, as Jack has already shown interest in the sport and appears athletic like his dad. Brady has shared a few snaps of Jack playing football on his Instagram account, captioning one photo of Jack with the words "My inspiration." In 2021, Jack joined his dad's team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on the football field as a ball boy during team practice. The proud dad shared a photo of his oldest son during the session, telling his fans that Jack takes his job as a ball boy "very seriously," (via People).
Jack likes to be his dad's 'mini me' and borrow his clothes
While most teenagers would avoid dressing like their parents, it's a different story when your dad is a super successful football star. According to Tom Brady, his eldest son Jack loves to explore his wardrobe. In an interview on the "Let's Go! Podcast" Brady told interviewers Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray that his teenage son is already big enough to wear his clothes. "6-foot-1 at 15 years old, he's starting to wear my shoes," Brady said. "He went into my closet the other night because he was going out with his cousins. He was like, 'Dad, can I see what's in your closet to wear?' and I was like, 'Oh s–t, he's going to go start wearing my clothes.'" Brady then joked that he has to draw the line somewhere and that Jack won't be allowed to borrow his purple Lamborgini. "Then I'd be like – I got to pump the breaks on that."
Jack gets along really well with his siblings
Although Tom Brady's eldest son Jack spends most of his time in New York City with his mom, actress Bridget Moynahan, and her husband, Andrew Frankel, he sees his siblings often (via US Magazine). While Brady's two children, Benjamin Rein, 12, and Vivian Lake, 9, with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen are based in Florida, Jack is regularly pictured on social media having fun with his younger siblings. On Jack's 14th birthday, Bündchen took to her Instagram to post a family photo to celebrate the occasion. In her post, she thanked Jack " for being the best big brother in the world." According to Bündchen, her son Benjamin and stepson, Jack, are very close. "For Benjamin, his big brother is his hero," she told People. "Jack comes in, and Benjamin has a big smile. He wants to follow him around. Anything he does, he's just in awe of him like, 'Oh my God!'"
Even after his divorce from Bündchen, Brady has actively tried to unite his children for vacations and events. In September 2022, Brady took time off work to go to the Hamptons to visit his son Jack for his 15th birthday, and he brought his other two children along to celebrate (via Daily Mail).
Jack has a close connection with his dad and the pair have a lot in common
Although Tom Brady was not expecting to have a son with his ex-girlfriend, Bridget Moynahan, he now has an undeniable connection with his eldest son Jack and has even called him "the greatest kid you could ever ask for," per People. Brady has done his best to wholeheartedly be there for Jack even though they live in different states and he is no longer with Jack's mom. When the father-son duo is in the same room, their resemblance is uncanny, but according to Brady, the similarities don't end there. Brady told Men's Health that, like him, Jack is passionate about sports and loves to play football. Brady also noted that his son is similar to him on an emotional level. "Jack is just like me—he holds a lot in," he said.
Brady is over the moon that his son Jack has chosen to play high school football and is excited about watching his games."I wanted to be there to watch him play," Brady said on the "Let's Go" podcast. "I said, 'I don't give a s**** if you come see my games anymore. No! I want to see your stuff.'"
Jack will see more of his dad now that Tom Brady is retiring
While NFL fans might not be excited about the legendary Tom Brady's retirement from the sport, his less hectic schedule will give him more time for his kids, including his eldest son Jack. In a short video posted on Twitter, the quarterback announced he would be "retiring for good." The news comes after he made the same announcement last year but changed his mind and decided to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for another season (via Today).
Brady will undoubtedly spend his retirement with his children as he has often called them his top priority. "Time is so valuable and it's so easy to forget how quickly it can pass us by," Brady told People. "I try to keep that in mind, because it reminds you to prioritize the things you love. We don't live forever, so we need to make the most of our time. I love my family so much and I love what I do for a living so much [that] I never, ever want to take those things for granted and I really try to treasure every second."
With Brady posting photos of father-son moments with Jack on Instagram, we are pretty sure his retirement will see him enjoying more of Jack's company. After all, it won't be long before Jack's off to college or to join the NFL – whatever Jack chooses we are sure he'll have his doting dad's support.
