According to Soap Hub, Salem was filled with iconic couples during the 1980s, and fans couldn't get enough of them. Viewers were obsessed with the chemistry between Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso). They were also intrigued by the relationships of Bo's sisters Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans) with Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) and Kimberly Brady (Patsy Pease) with Shane Donovan (Charles Shaughnessy). Of course, John Black (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) often steamed up the scenes, while Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) and Adrienne Kiriakis (Judi Evans) were another fan-favorite pair.

While many of those relationships lived on for decades, one of the show's most popular couples in the 80s didn't go the distance. Regardless, Neil Curtis (Joseph Gallison) and Liz Chandler (Gloria Loring) were beloved by viewers during their time in Salem.

Liz had a messy love life

While many fans will likely remember Neil Curtis as a doctor who dealt with many personal struggles during his time on "Days of Our Lives," not everyone will remember Liz Chandler. Actress Gloria Loring played the beloved character, who is also known for her work on "The Carol Burnett Show," "Fantasy Island," "Murder She Wrote," and more. She is also the ex-wife of "Growing Pains" actor Alan Thicke and mother to singer Robin Thicke, reports Film Reference.

Liz first showed up in Salem in 1980 at the request of her father, per Soap Central. Shortly after moving to town, she met Don Craig (Jed Allan), and the two fell madly in love and even had an affair while Don was married to Marlena Evans. Liz and Don got married a year later. However, Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) ruined the couple's nuptials when he revealed that their marriage was invalid because he was legally married to Liz. Tony then kidnapped Liz and forced her to stay with him at the DiMera mansion. When Liz fell in love with Neil, Tony used that to his advantage. He threatened Neil's life and made Liz spy on Doug Williams (Bill Hayes).

When Neil and Liz began having an affair, Liz became pregnant with his baby. Tony believed the child to be his own, according to Soap Hub, and Liz didn't tell either man the truth.

Liz left Salem in 1986

By the time that Liz Chandler gave birth to her daughter, Noel, Neil Curtis had moved on and married Marie Horton (Maree Cheatham), per Soaps. Upon finding out that he wasn't Noel's father, Tony finally granted Liz the divorce she wanted. After the end of the marriage, Neil and Liz started up another affair. One night after sneaking around together, Liz thought she heard an intruder in Neil's apartment and grabbed a gun. She then shot Neil's wife, Marie. According to Soap Central, Liz eventually went to prison for the crime, and Neil divorced Marie while Liz was in jail. Later that year, Liz and Neil finally got married. Once Liz was released from prison, she excitedly opened her own clothing boutique.

However, Liz and Neil started to have problems in their marriage. Neil accused Liz of cheating on him, but when she was shot in the throat, he was there for her. Liz was devastated to lose her singing voice but eventually regained her ability to sing. Sadly, after so much drama in their relationship, Liz and Neil chose to end their marriage. They divorced in 1986, and Liz left town. The pair shared custody of their daughter until Neil also left Salem, per Soap Hub.

Although "Days of Our Lives" fans haven't seen Liz in Salem for many years, it would be nice to see her face back in town again.
