Sheila Carter's Relationship With Mike Guthrie On The Bold And The Beautiful Explained

There has never been a villain on daytime television quite like Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) on "The Bold and the Beautiful." Sheila's reign of terror across "B&B" and "The Young and the Restless" has been happening for over three decades and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. Her recent spree of crime and havoc has seen her spike Brooke Logan's (Katherine Kelly Lang) drink and shoot her biological son Dr. Finn (Tanner Novlan), and his wife, Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). Finn was presumed dead for many months, with Sheila enlisting the help of an old friend to provide her with the necessary supplies to keep him alive and in captivity (via Soaps In Depth).

Sheila got her longtime pal and accomplice, Mike Guthrie (Ken Hanes), to assist in caring for and hiding Finn while she was keeping him hostage from his wife and son. However, Mike isn't someone that Sheila pulled out of nowhere to help with her crimes. Rather, his allegiance to Sheila goes back decades — to the mid-1990s — but somehow, he's still loyal to her after everything she has put him through (via Soap Central).

Mike and Sheila's connection is unconventional at best and dangerous at worst. Still, Sheila knows how to play the manipulation game very well, leading to Mike's blind obsession with her, regardless of his treatment. However, to understand how they linked back up in 2022, it's important to realize their lengthy history — most of which has hurt Mike and benefited Sheila.

Mike and Sheila have a borderline abusive relationship

Mike Guthrie initially came onto the scene on "The Bold and The Beautiful" as a security guard who caught Sheila Carter in a criminal act. However, he backed off after being on the receiving end of a vicious dog attack, courtesy of the villainess herself. The incident with the dogs left an indelible imprint on Guthrie, forcing him to switch to the dark side and join Sheila, assisting in nefarious activities such as kidnapping multiple people that got in her way (via Soaps In Depth).

Sadly despite signs that Guthrie has a conscience and might come to his senses about Sheila, he always falls for her charm and her traps, finding himself forever locked in an endless cycle of drama any time the two cross paths. Even though Guthrie appeared on "B&B" in 2010, he and Sheila didn't cross paths again until 2022 in the aftermath of her shooting her son Dr. Finn and his wife in a back alley, leaving both for dead (via Michael Fairman TV).

Following her arrest, Sheila was transferred to jail, and, as fate would have it, the security guard working the prison happened to be her former partner-in-crime, Guthrie. Suddenly, Sheila had all the confidence in the world that her luck was turning around.

Mike helped Sheila keep Finn hostage

It seemed like Sheila Carter was going to serve time for killing her son, Dr. Finn, and severely wounding his wife, Steffy Forrester. However, Sheila hit a streak of good luck after noticing that Mike Guthrie was one of the guards at the facility where she was being held (via Soaps In Depth). In typical Sheila fashion, she was able to convince him to put his job — and his own freedom — on the line to break her out, so she could find out where her son's last resting place was.

What Sheila wasn't expecting after following Finn's adopted mother, Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda), was that her son was very much alive and under Li's care. Sheila drove Li off the side of the road and into the water, presumably killing her, and she took over caring for Finn (via Soaps). However, Sheila needed help to make all of this happen, so she once again enlisted Guthrie's help to do her bidding.

Ultimately, once Finn was found alive and well, Sheila went on the run, leaving Guthrie as her fall guy and landing him in prison. However, Sheila's days on the run came to an end after being discovered by Steffy, and she saw a familiar face upon her return to prison: Guthrie. Luckily for Sheila, he would once more play a role in her freedom.

Guthrie played a key role in Sheila's release from custody

Somehow, despite being one of the worst criminals on daytime television, Sheila Carter has the greatest luck of anyone. She escapes custody and wiggles her way out of criminal charges better than most. While on the run, Sheila became romantically involved with business tycoon Bill Spencer (Don Diamont), much to the astonishment of Dr. Finn and Steffy Forrester (via Soaps In Depth). Even though Bill and Sheila blackmailed the couple into dropping the charges and not testifying, Sheila was still facing other charges that could put her behind bars for many years.

Sheila was facing hard time for escaping prison, which Mike Guthrie had assisted in. However, with strings pulled by Bill, Guthrie was able to come through for Sheila one last time, falsely admitting to kidnapping Sheila and forcing her out of prison. The judge — also paid for by Bill — was left with no other choice than to drop all charges against her, setting Sheila loose in Los Angeles to wreak further havoc on everyone's lives (via Soaps).

Guthrie is clearly in love with Sheila, even though she would never give him the time of day romantically. Her final visit with him, where she slapped him in the face, was the only evidence needed to showcase the way she only uses the poor man to further her own agenda. It remains to be seen if their paths will cross again, but it's a safe bet that fans haven't seen the last of Mike Guthrie.
