The Handbag Both Kate Middleton And Queen Camilla Are Obsessed With
The women of the British royal family love a handbag, which was particularly evident with the late Queen Elizabeth II. She was always seen with a trusty Launer London Purse (via British Vogue). "She once told me that she doesn't feel dressed without a bag," Launer London's CEO, Gerald Bodmer, told the fashion magazine. "And I completely agree, of course." The queen had over 10 bags by the brand, which she would add to her collection rather than replace the one she already had.
Another royal with a love for a specific handbag was Princess Diana. For her, it was the Lady Dior. Designed in 1994 by the French fashion house Dior, the bag was initially called the Chouchou. But when Diana was photographed with it for the first time in 1995, it was renamed the Lady Dior in honor of the former Princess of Wales (via Grazia).
Diana and Elizabeth weren't the only royal women to favor a certain handbag. Catherine Middleton, Princess of Wales, and Camilla, Queen Consort, share the same affection for the British brand DeMillier, per People.
Kate Middleton first wore this particular bag in 2021
During an official visit to the British town of Scarborough in November 2022 (via People), Kate Middleton was photographed holding a small purse called The Nano Montreal, designed by the British brand DeMellier in the shade "deep toffee smooth." While Kate has been seen at royal engagements with different handbags over the years (via Newsweek), this particular brand and design seem to be one of her favorites as of late. So much so that The Nano Montreal sells out whenever she is photographed holding it (via Red magazine).
Kate first wore the same Nano Montreal bag in 2021 during a series of public engagements in London, including an event at the National Portrait Gallery. She also wore a navy version of the bag during an official visit to Northern Ireland in October 2022. "It's such a huge honor," the founder and designer of DeMellier, Mireia Llusia-Lindh, told People. "I cannot emphasize enough what amazing ambassadors [the royals] are for Britain as a country and for British brands like ours."
Camilla wasn't the first royal to wear the British-designed handbag
Camilla, Queen Consort, is also a fan of the British brand DeMillier. However, she likes a different design called the Mini Venice (via DeMillier). The royal was first spotted with the bag in the shade "forest grain" in 2019 (via Express), and she reportedly loves it so much that she has it in a variety of colors (via People). But Camilla wasn't the first royal to wear the brand. Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, was first seen sporting DeMillier in 2018 during a royal visit to Cardiff with Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, wearing the same design and color as Camilla.
DeMillier's founder and designer, Mireia Llusia-Lindh, has "no idea" how the two royals initially found the brand. "Both of them bought the bag on the website — it's great to see it enjoyed by different generations like that," she told People. Princess Beatrice and Zara Tindall are also fans of the brand, with Tindall wearing one of their bags at Queen Elizabeth's funeral in September 2022 (via Hello! magazine).
