Lipstick everywhere

Lipstick isn't just for the lips anymore. While you'll still want to avoid getting it on your teeth, feel free to experiment with using lipstick on your face. This look was all over the runway at Spring 2018 fashion shows.

"We wanted to add a little bit of an edge with the makeup," makeup artist Gucci Westman told Fashionista. "[This look] is kind of interesting because it's not wet. I haven't really seen this before; it's kind of in between. It's like a satin type finish, which I like. It looks pretty but not boring."

Heavy, dramatic eyeliner

Get ready to be bold in 2018. Allure dubbed what is sure to be the year's hottest eyeliner trend "Cleopatra liner" because it is "reminiscent of how Cleopatra wore her eyeliner; or at least how we believe she wore her eyeliner: supergraphic, superpointy, superdramatic, and heavier along the bottom lashes." Sure, you might have to spend more money on eyeliner than usual (as you'll be going through it quicker), but the look is going to be so, so worth it.

Bright colors

Make 2018 pop with some bright hues. According to makeup artist Robert Sesnek, 2018 is all about the color. "Color will be big, expect to see colors from orange to ocean blues," he told Elle in a prediction of how makeup trends will change in 2018. Pinterest confirmed Sesnek's prediction, reporting that searches for bright eyeshadow on the website increased by 63 percent.

Longer lashes

Start stocking up on that mascara now, because 2018 is going to be defined by long eyelashes. Pinterest tracked the rise of searches related to eyelashes and found a 152 percent increase. It's safe to say that long, luxurious eyelashes are going to dominate the eye game in 2018. When paired with heavy eyeliner and bold eyeshadow, this is sure to be an eye-popping look.

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna

This isn't so much a trend as it is a revolution. Rihanna pretty much changed the makeup game in 2017 with the launch of her cosmetic line, Fenty Beauty. Fans went wild over the inclusive line, which features 40 shades of foundation and 30 shades of concealer.

"I just also wanted things that girls of all skin tones could fall in love with," Rihanna told Popsugar. "I keep saying that because that was really important, for me, for every product. I kept saying, there needs to be something for a dark-skinned girl, there needs to be something for a pale girl, there needs to be something for everyone in between."

Rihanna's makeup could be seen all over Spring 2018 fashion shows, so it's safe to say that it's a must-have for your makeup arsenal.

Personalized makeup

Makeup is becoming more and more personalized. With bespoke makeup, companies are providing customers with options that are tailored to them. Nina Leykind, co-founder Eyeko, which sells customized mascara, told Harper's Bazaar, "One size doesn't fit all when it comes to mascara because we all have different lashes, eye shapes, and desired styles." She continued, "We also rarely try mascara before we buy it and we're often disappointed with the results once we get it home."

While bespoke makeup isn't a new concept, it's becoming more widespread. The prices are also surprisingly affordable and can save you money in the long run. Lynne Sanders, founder of Cosmetics à la Carte, also told Harper's Bazaar, "When we buy bespoke products, we also spend less money accumulating products which don't quite suit our skin, or buying an eye palette and using only one shade."

Weightless foundation

Forget about oily foundation that leaves your skin feeling greasy and dirty. Harper's Bazaar reports that weightless foundations have been growing in popularity and are going to be everywhere in 2018, leaving your face feeling fresher and lighter than it has in years. If you (like me) have generally avoided foundation because you don't like that caked-on feeling, then 2018 is your year. These weightless foundations are not just light, but are also breathable for a natural look and feel.

Glossy skin

For a shiny new you, you'll want to check out the glossy skin trend that took over the runways of 2018 fashion shows. Makeup artist James Kaliardos told WWD  that glossy skin and eyes is "the next generation of highlight."

"Just to be sort of shiny and add that extra texture — it's almost like a piece of clothing, putting on something — putting this shine on, and it adds another element to the look," he said. "It looks super cool."

Crystals

Don't be surprised when you start seeing crystals everywhere in 2018. Kim Kardashian has already tapped into the trend with her Crystal Gardenia by KKW Fragrance scents coming in crystal shaped bottles. "It all started when everyone would come over and bring me healing crystals at a time in my life where I needed some healing," she told People.

HuffPost reports that New Age inspired products are going to be one of 2018's hottest trends — some products, like this highlighter from Glossier, even have crystals infused into them.

Ultra Violet hues

Pantone has named Ultra Violet as 2018's color of the year, which means that this bright hue is going to be cropping up all over the scene. According to Pantone, this color is "complex and contemplative" and "suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now."

Pantone added that "enigmatic purples" have long been associated with "counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance."

Red highlighter

While red highlighter might sound a little bit out there, it's shaping up to be an unexpected hit with makeup aficionados. Refinery29 has red highlighter pegged as "the next big thing in 2018," and for good reason. This warm color works with every skin tone.

Makeup artist Karla Duarte told Refinery29 that this color is "not stark, like wearing blue highlighter or any unicorn colors." Instead, it "is more approachable and gives the most beautiful healthy glow on the skin."
